At Ben & Jerry’s, we believe in supporting small-scale family farming. We’re especially proud of our longstanding relationship with the 500 farmers of the St. Albans, Vermont Cooperative Creamery. For 20 years, we’ve used their milk and cream in our delicious ice cream.

In addition to providing a market for milk and cream from the co-op, we pay a premium for the farmers’ pledge not to treat cows with Recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH), a synthetic hormone that increases cows’ milk production. While rBGH is in common use, we think it is a step in the wrong direction toward a synthetic, chemically-intensive, food supply.
